The Lives of the Prophets: Prophet Sheeth and Prophet Idrees (‘alayhimas-salaam)

Prophet Sheeth (‘alayhis salaam)

Sheeth (‘alayhis salaam) is a Prophet not mentioned in the Qur’aan. He is a Prophet that we know from the Sunnah.

Abu Dharr (radiAllaahu ‘anhu) narrated that Prophet Muhammad (sallAllaahu ‘alayhi wasallam) said: “Allaah sent down one hundred and four psalms, of which fifty were sent down to Sheeth.”

[Saheeh al Bukhari]

Sheeth received revelation from Allaah. Some scholars mention that Aadam gave Sheeth the responsibility upon his passing. Sheeth is said to be the son of Aadam.

Prophet Idrees (‘alayhis salaam)

Idrees (‘alayhis salaam), most scholars say he is a Prophet that came between Sheeth and Nuuh.

Idris is mentioned in the Qur’aan.

19:56. “Also mention In the Book the case of Idrees: He was a man of truth (and sincerity), (and) a Prophet.”

21:85. “And (remember) Isma’eel, Idrees, and dhul-kifl, all (men) of constancy and patience.”

We have some stories about him from Israiliyyaat. Allaah revealed to him that his deeds were equivalents to the good deeds of everyone on the face of the earth. He said, “If that is the case, I can ask Allaah for a longer life so I can get more good deeds.” He told his friend (an Angel) “Why don’t we go to the Angel of Death and ask if we can speak to Allaah to ask Him to give me a longer life.”

The Angel said, “Ok, ride on my wings.” As they went up through the Heavens, the Angel of Death was going down. The Angel of Death said, “Subhaan’Allaah, I was given an order by Allaah to take the soul of Idrees in the fourth heaven. And I had no idea how I was meant to do this if he was on Earth.”

The Angel looked on his back and saw that Idrees had already passed away.

Rasuulullaah (sallAllaahu ‘alayhi wasallam) met with Prophet Idrees in the fourth heaven.

To be continued with the story of the next Prophet in shaa Allaah…
