The Lives of the Prophets: Prophet Huud (‘alayhis-salaam) Part 2

Prophet Huud (‘alayhis salaam)

Part 2

46:22. they said: “Have you come to turn us away from our âliha (gods)? Then bring us that with which you threaten us, if You are one of the truthful!”

The people of ‘Aad were arrogant and proud because of their strength, power and ‘civilisation’.

We see this arrogance in many of the great civilisations that disbelieved in Allaah.

41:15. As for ‘Aad, they were arrogant in the land without right, and they said: “Who is mightier than us In strength?” see they not that Allaah, who created them was mightier In strength than them. And they used to deny Our Ayaat (proofs, evidences, verses, lessons, revelations, etc.)!

Allaah was taking the people of ‘Aad through a test to remind them, He gave them chances and did not bring the punishment on them all at once.

Allaah made them go through a period of drought to remind them of their weakness as human beings, so that they may turn to Allaah in repentance.

But this wasn’t sufficient to turn their attention to the truth.

Huud made du’aa to Allaah.

His du’aa reached Allaah and dark clouds started approaching in the horizon.

46:24. Then, when they saw it as a dense cloud coming towards their valleys, they said: “This is a cloud bringing us rain!” Nay, but it is that (torment) which you were asking to be hastened! A wind wherein is a painful torment!

46:25. Destroying everything by the command of its Lord! So they became such that nothing could be seen except their dwellings! Thus do we recompense the people who are Mujrimeen (polytheists, disbelievers, sinners, etc.)!

When Rasuulullaah (salAllaahu ‘alayhi wasallam) would see clouds approaching Madeenah, his face would change. ‘Aaishah (radiAllaahu ‘anhaa) noticed his worried face. She said to him, “O Rasuulullaah, when people see the clouds they are happy, but you look anxious.” He replied, “A nation before us saw these clouds and thought that they had mercy, they didn’t know that it had the punishment of Allaah in them.”

41:16. so we sent upon them furious wind In days of evil omen (for them) that we might give them a taste of disgracing torment In This present worldly life, but surely the torment of the Hereafter will be more disgracing, and they will never be helped.

The wind Allaah sent on the people of ‘Aad, besieged them. It stayed with them for seven nights and eight days continuously.

69:7. which Allaah imposed on them for seven nights and Eight days In succession, so that You could see men lying overthrown (destroyed), as if they were hollow trunks of date-palms!

69:8. Do you see any remnants of them?

Allaah completely destroyed them because they were the most powerful.

Allaah saved Huud.

11:58. and when Our Commandment came, we saved Huud and those who believed with Him by a Mercy from us, and we saved them from a severe torment.

11:59. such were ‘Aad (people). They rejected the Ayaat (proofs, evidences, verses, lessons, signs, revelations, etc.) of their Lord and disobeyed his Messengers, and followed the command of every proud obstinate (oppressor of the truth, from their leaders).

11:60. and they were pursued by a Curse in This world and (so they will be) on the Day of Resurrection. No doubt! Verily, ‘Aad disbelieved in their Lord. So away with ‘Aad, the people of Huud.

To be continued with the story of the next Prophet…

The Lives of the Prophets: Prophet Huud (‘alayhis-salaam) Part 1

Prophet Huud (‘alayhis salaam)

Part 1

Allaah sent Huud (‘alayhis salaam) to the people of ‘Aad.

Allaah says that the people of ‘Aad lived in Al-Ahqaaf. This is mentioned in Surat Al-Ahqaaf. It means ‘Sand Dunes’. Its now a desert area in Yemen. They lived in the area of Hadanuut.

Allaah described the people of ‘Aad in the Qur’aan. They used to worship idols, “He has increased you amply in stature.”

7:69. “Do you wonder that there has come to you a Reminder (and an advice) from your Lord through a man from amongst you that He may warn you? And remember that He made you successors after the people of Nuuh (Noah), and increased you amply in stature. So Remember the graces (bestowed upon you) from Allaah, so that you may be successful.”

They were huge, tall and strong and well-built. As a society Allaah told them:

26:132. “And keep your duty to Him; fear Him who has aided you with all (good things) that you know.

26:133. “He has aided you with cattle and children.

26:134. “And Gardens and springs.

Allaah has said about them:

26:128. “Do you construct on every elevation a sign, amusing yourselves,

26:129. “And take for yourselves palaces and fortresses that you might abide eternally?

26:130. “And when you strike, you strike as tyrants.

26:131. “So fear Allaah and obey me.

They became so luxurious and so wealthy that were spending their money in a wasteful way. The people of ‘Aad had so much additional wealth they fell into the trap of using money for pride and arrogance after satisfying your basic needs.

They started building monuments over mountains, for pride, to show off. They built palaces so fine as if they thought they were going to live forever.

They were powerful tyrants, putting all this together Allaah said:

89:7 [With] Iram – who had lofty pillars,

89:8 The likes of whom had never been created in the land

Allaah did not create anyone similar to them.

Their society was unsurpassed by anyone in their time.

Allaah sent Huud to them. His Message was the same Message of Nuuh (‘alayhis salaam).

7:65. and to ‘Ad (people, we sent) their brother Huud. He said: “O My people! Worship Allaah! You have no other Ilaah (God) but Him. (Laa ilaaha ill-Allaah: none has the Right to be worshipped but Allaah). Will you not fear (Allaah)?”

11:52. “And O My people! Ask Forgiveness of your Lord and then repent to him, He will send you (from the sky) abundant rain, and add strength to your strength, so do not turn away as Mujrimeen (criminals, disbelievers In the Oneness of Allaah).”

11:53. they said: “O Huud! No evidence have you brought us, and we shall not leave our gods for your (mere) saying! And we are not believers in you.

11:54. “All that we Say is that some of our gods (false deities) have seized you with evil (madness).” He said: “I call Allaah to witness and bear you witness that I am free from that which You ascribe as partners In worship, –

They started to accuse Huud of being insane.

If you refuse one Messenger, it is as if you refuse them all because they came with the same Message.

26:123. ‘Ad (people) denied the Messengers.

The leaders said:

7:66. The leaders of those who disbelieved among his people said: “Verily, we see you in foolishness, and Verily, we think you are one of the liars.”

23:33. And the chiefs of his people, who disbelieved and denied the Meeting In the Hereafter, and to whom we had given the luxuries and comforts of This life, said: “He is no more than a human being like you, he eats of that which you eat, and drinks of what you drink.

23:34. “If you were to obey a human being like yourselves, Then Verily! You indeed would be losers.

23:35. “Does he promise you that when you have died and have become dust and bones, you shall come out alive (resurrected)?

23:36. “Far, very far is that which you are promised.

23:37. “There is nothing but our life of this world! We die and we live! And we are not going to be resurrected!

23:38. “He is only a man who has invented a lie against Allaah, but we are not going to believe in him.”

To be contined in shaa Allaah…
